A COMMUNITY has rallied around in support of a five-year-old boy’s battle against cancer.

As previously reported in The Gazette, Oliver Warner, of Farriers Close, Bramley was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma – a type of cancer that forms in certain types of nerve tissue - in 2016.

He underwent extensive chemotherapy and surgery, before he went into remission, but has since relapsed.

Now, his family is looking to raise £203,000 to send him to Barcelona for experimental antibody treatment in a bid to cure him of the disease.

Since learning of Oliver’s fight members of the community have rallied round to support the family, including his school, Bramley CofE Primary.

In a bid to help the Warner family’s campaign three teachers at the school will be getting their heads shaved in the middle of the playground.

Coined the Great Bramley Shave Off, head of school, Steve Moore, along with teachers David Bonner and Andrew Taylor have all put themselves forward to help Oliver.

Mr Moore said: “Oliver is such an amazing child and should be seen as an inspiration to everyone.

“He has already gone through so much, so as a school we wanted to do whatever we could to support them.

“For Children in Need we decided to split half the money we raise with the charity and give the other half to Oliver’s family.”

For the special head shave, which will take place on December 14, the school, where Oliver is a Year 1 pupil, has set itself a challenge that if they raise £3,000 within the school then headteacher Glen Golding will have his back waxed.

Through other activities, far the school has already collected more than £4,000 for the campaign.
