THE North West Ambulance Service has chosen its new chief executive.

Daren Mochrie is to take over from Derek Cartwright, who has retired from the post.

Mr Mochrie is chief executive of South East Coast Ambulance and was previously director of operations for the Scottish Ambulance Service.

He will take up his position in next spring.

Mr Mochrie has worked for the NHS since the age of 17.

He has extensive experience of managing ambulance services in both rural and urban settings.

He was also the lead for ambulance provision in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Mr Mochrie has also held the position of specialist advisor with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), leading four recent CQC inspections of ambulance trusts in England.

North West Ambulance Service chairman Wyn Dignan said: “We’re very pleased to be welcoming Daren to the trust.

“He has a wealth of experience within the NHS, and in particular the ambulance sector.

“We look forward to continuing to provide the best care for our patients under Daren’s leadership.”
