TWO pubs in Basingstoke have been awarded for the standard of their toilets in the Loo of the Year Awards 2018.

The Maidenhead Inn, in Winchester Street was awarded a platinum rating and The Angel in Festival Place received a gold rating.

Inspectors make unannounced visits to thousands of toilets across the country over the year to rate toilets.

Toilets are rated from bronze to platinum, whilst unacceptable toilets are not graded at all.

The awards aim to highlight and ensure improved standards of ‘away from home toilets’.

Each toilet is rated based on a number of criteria including- décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

The Maidenhead Inn manager, Jonathan Fletcher, said: “We are delighted with the award. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”
