A GROUP of teenagers from Germany have experienced what working life is like in Basingstoke and Deane.
The 11 students from Michael-Ende-Gymnasium (MEG), near Düsseldorf, lived with host families in the borough and lived through a cultural and professional experience from October 7 to October 20.
The group of 16-year-olds worked as volunteers at 11 organisations, including the Willis Museum, Red Lion Hotel, Naomi House, Sue Ryder and the RSPCA, to learn about working in a different country and learning vital life skills.
This is the third year the programme has been run by TailoredLanguages, to give students the chance to experience life in the UK.
It was set up by director of TailoredLanguages, Annie Taylor who met Emmanuelle Soilly, teacher at MEG, in Basingstoke when they began their careers as teachers 20 years ago sharing the same passion for the English culture and language.
Aware of the impact their own experience has had on their future they decided to set up a project enabling German students to work and live in Basingstoke for two weeks every year.
In light of all employers’ positive feedback, Annie said is looking forward to more students coming next year.
