Fake blood, zombies and even a working guillotine turned one family’s house into an immersive horror scene on Halloween in aid of charity.

Starting at 9am yesterday (October 31) the Herr family made up of Rachael, 39, Andy, 48 and Megan, 15, spend a whole working day getting their Borodin Close house ready for the evening.

Rachael said: “It’s great fun, I love doing it. I spend more on it than Christmas.”

The house was being decorated to raise money for the charity Breast Cancer Care and the family hope to raise £150 as they anticipated over 100 people to come see the house in all its glory and gore.

The Breast Cancer Charity was chosen as one close to the family’s hearts since Andy’s mum has just finished radiotherapy and a family friend also had cancer.

For the last two years the house has been decorated in aid of charity but the family have been decorating for even longer and now well known with people even coming from across Basingstoke just to see the house on October 31.

Rachael’s father has created a working guillotine which actually cut off the head of a fake body, which they created themselves out of cling film and Sellotape.

In the evening, another six people join the family to form the scene, with some replacing the fake bodies in gallows to add to the fear factor, Rachael says it adds to the atmosphere when one of the bodies, or even all three hanging might be a real person.

Rachael said: “Everybody loves it, they all get into the spirit.”

“Some people find it funny, some people cry and lots of screams.”

The family moved into their home on Borodin Close on Halloween 13 years ago.
