FAMILIES gathered to take on a ghastly attraction, despite the poor weather on Saturday.

The Basingstoke and District Model Engineering Society hosted its annual ghost train attraction at the Viables Craft Centre, welcoming a number of families to the event which ran from 2pm to 8pm.

The track was decorated for Halloween with smoke in the tunnel, candles burning and scary figurines set up along the route.

Despite heavy rains on Saturday, the Ghost Train still ran successfully, according to the society.

Society secretary, Brian Hogg said: "It went very well, particularly as the weather wasn't very good to us."

Children and their families got to ride the train around the track to experience the spooky set-up.

The Basingstoke and District Model Engineering Society run events throughout the year where members of the public can come along to ride the miniature train providing entertainment for families.

Some of the events like the ghost train for Halloween are put onto mark a holiday, whilst many others just provide a fun experience.

The Society which was set up in 1976 is based at Viables Craft Centre.

The final event of the year will be on December 2.
