A JOINING of two choirs has raised a four-figure sum for charity.

The autumn concert given by Basingstoke Male Voice Choir on Sunday was shared with Four Lanes Male Choir from Cornwall which was touring Hampshire this weekend.

Proceeds from ticket sales for the event held at the United Reformed Church, in London Street, Basingstoke, mean £1,000 is to be presented to the Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Around 100 people attended the concert which featured an array of songs including Unchained Melody, You'll Never Walk Alone and Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah among the more contemporary sounds, as well as more classic choir tunes.

The Basingstoke Male Voice Choir is looking for new members so that concerts like this can be staged to raise funds for deserving causes.

The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings at the United Reformed Church.
