FOR one night only, the 1980s were back in Basingstoke.

On Saturday night, St. Michael’s Hospice welcomed 475 walkers to Festival Place for its annual Moonlight Walk, which this year had a 1980s theme to it.

This was the highest number of attendees since the 2011 event, with many enjoying the 80s theme with a huge range of colourful outfits on display.

The walkers set off on their eight-and-a-half-mile route at 10pm returning before 2am to collect their medals.

Laura Hughes, event manager for St. Michael’s Hospice, said: “The atmosphere on the night was fantastic with many of our walkers embracing the 80’s theme.

"We are so grateful for all the support we have received this year and thrilled by the amount of sponsorship our walkers have raised.

“A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the event, as well as our volunteers, and organisations who supported the event including: Basingstoke Deane Rotary Club, Mars Drinks, Basingstoke Rugby Club, Basingstoke Ramblers, Fyffes, Party Delights, Zizzi’s and Routine Riots.

“Following the success of this year’s event we can’t wait to start planning for Moonlight Walk 2019.”

The hospice hopes to raise its target amount of £20,000 from the event which will go directly towards funding patient care.
