A POLICE operation was being carried out on a main commuter road this morning.
Officers were ordering vehicles on the A340 Aldermaston Road to pull into the 'Tadley Kebabs' lay-by near to the Queen College Arms junction.
Police have yet to confirm the details of the operation though when a Gazette reporter was on the scene, it was only vans which were parked in the lay-by.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "Hampshire Constabulary's Country Watch team is taking part in a planned multi-agency operation on October 16.
"This involves carrying out vehicle checks on the A340 Aldermaston Road between Basingstoke and Tadley."
Hampshire Constabulary has yet to respond to a request for further details of the nature of the operation.
