A MAN diagnosed with a brain tumour thousands of miles away from home will be returning to England after several operations and a fundraising campaign.

George Gannon, 29 and from Old Basing, moved to Thailand with his girlfriend several years ago, and on Tuesday, 25 September, awoke unable to move his legs or talk.

He was rushed to Koh Samui hospital, where he was diagnosed with a frontal lobe malignant tumour on the left side of his brain.

However, George has since undergone a major operation to remove the large tumour, but several smaller ones were discovered, and further operations had to be carried out.

His mother, Sarah Evison, rushed out to Thailand last week with his brother to be with him, joining his girlfriend Natalie Grace, who had not left his bedside.

The family started a fundraising page in order to travel to Thailand and bring George back to England for further treatment.

The generosity of people was immediately felt as £13,500 was raised in just two days after it was set up, and the fundraising target of £25,000 has nearly been achieved with more than £22,00 raised.

It was uncertain for a time when George would be given his fit to fly certificate, and when he could travel back, as it would have to be in business class so that he can lie down.

It was confirmed this week that George was due to have travelled back to England on Thursday.

Mrs Evison wrote on the fundraising page: “Without you [donors] this would not have been possible and the whole family thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity.

“But unfortunately it doesn’t stop here. Upon our return, George will start cancer treatment at the North Staffs hospital in Stoke. His girlfriend, Natalie and George will be staying with my family whilst he undergoes whatever treatment he requires. It’s not going to pleasant nor easy, but we look forward with positivity and light in our hearts.”

“Please do not stop donating as any amount is , believe me, going towards Georges wellbeing in the future.”
