THE public consultation for residents to have their views on the future make up of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is nearing its close.

As previously reported in The Gazette, the Local Government Boundary Commission has drawn up plans to change the ward boundaries in the borough.

If the proposal is agreed upon, the number of councillors would be reduced to 54, with mergers of wards proposed to facilitate the move.

Professor Colin Mellors, chair of the commission, said: “This is the last chance for local people to have their say on ward boundaries for all borough councillors in Basingstoke and Deane.

“We want to hear evidence from the people who know Basingstoke and Deane best about the shape of local communities across the borough before we finalise our recommendations in November.”

The consultation closes on October 15, to have your say, visit: consultation.lgbce.org.uk/node/11062.
