THE Anvil will be alive with the sound of music on Sunday when the venue plays host to the annual Festival Of Choirs concert.

Starring hundreds of local singers, the Voices Together concert will be supporting Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which is raising £5million towards a new NHS cancer treatment centre that will be built at Basingstoke hospital.

The cause will be this year’s beneficiary of the charity collection that will take place at the end of the concert.

Dai Ogborn, chairman of the Festival Of Choirs, said: “Accompanied by the Heritage Light Orchestra, the Festival of Choirs will showcase the very best of the borough’s choral talent.

“The programme will include the music of Karl Jenkins, Gilbert and Sullivan, and Verdi, as well as some modern and popular songs.

"All the music will be guaranteed to lift the spirits and will add up to a joyous evening of music making.”

Basingstoke Hospital Male Voice Choir will be among the many local choirs performing at the concert.

Other choirs taking part are the Basing Singers, Basingstoke Choral Society, Basingstoke Male Voice Choir, Belles of St Martins, Kingsclere Singers, Ooh Mama, Overton Choral Society, Steventon Singers, and Tadley Singers.

Special guests St Mary’s CE Junior School Choir and Vocal Point Youth Choir will also be appearing at the concert.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7pm, are £16 for those over the age 16, and £8 for those under the age of 16, which includes a £2 booking fee. Tickets are available to purchase from the Anvil Arts box office or by going to anvilarts.org.uk.
