PARKINSON'S UK's Basingstoke branch has received a financial boost from a building society.

As part of Newbury Building Society’s Community Support scheme, the charity was awarded £375 to support its ‘Loud and Clear’ speech therapy sessions and tai-chi exercise classes.

Hosted at Popley Fields Community Centre, both activities offer a welcoming environment with access to specialist care for people in the Basingstoke and Deane area living with Parkinson’s.

Len Potts, health and social support representative for Parkinson’s UK said: “Support from local Parkinson’s branches is vital in helping today’s sufferers manage their condition better.

“In the current economic climate, imposed resource constraints inevitably reduce the support available to our members. Schemes such as that provided by the Newbury Building Society help us to bridge some of the gaps” she added.

The community support scheme was launched in 2017 and provides financial assistance, to a maximum of £500, to a wide range of local organisations.
