THIS week we head back to the last year of the sixties - 1969.
Basingstoke Sports Centre was getting ready to open in 1970, new phone boxes arrived in the town and Basingstoke got its first Wimpy in the New Market Square.
On TV in this year:
•Lulu the elephant runs amok on Blue Peter
•Regular colour broadcasting is introduced to BBC1 and ITV
•The Benny Hill Show premieres on Thames Television
•Lulu wins the 14th Eurovision Song Contest with her hit Boom Bang a Bang
