TRIBUTES have been paid to a “loving husband” who died after being struck by a car - and thanks given to those who helped him after the incident.

Brian Turnbull, 74, of Mullins Close, Oakridge died following a collision in Normanton Road on Tuesday morning.

Police were called between 9.35am and 9.50am to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a Mini Cooper.

Today, Mr Turnbull’s family have released a statement paying tribute to the man who had a great “sense of humour”.

The statement read: “"Brian was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His sudden death is a huge shock which we are still trying to process. He will be deeply missed by those that knew him.

“We will remember him as a loving, caring and supportive husband and dad.

"We draw inspiration from his positive and optimistic outlook on life and will greatly miss his sense of humour, and constantly happy attitude.

“We thank all those that helped Brian after the accident for their care and compassion, and to all the well wishes that we have received as a family."

Following the incident, Mr Turnbull was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries, but he died later that evening.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses who saw the collision to come forward with any information, particularly those living in the area or using the bus route which runs through Normanton Road.
