A NEW access road is being proposed into a new housing development in Beggarwood.

As previously reported in The Gazette, Linden Homes has been granted consent to build 750 new homes opposite Basingstoke Golf Club.

Now a planning application has been submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to allow a new access road from the A30 to the site known as Hounsome Fields.

The proposed entrance for the new road would be at Trenchard Lane which links Oakley to the A33 close to the M3 at Junction 7.

The planning statement compiled by the Pegasus Group, on behalf of Linden Homes, read: “The construction access into the northern parcel of the Hounsome Fields site will facilitate construction work on the site once the reserved matters applications are approved.

“It is envisaged that the access will be required for a period of three years or the completion of the roundabout.”

Located west of Winchester Road, the Hounsome Fields site is situated immediately south of Linden Homes’ 310 new homes development at Longacre.

There will be the need for the removal of some greenery around the area under the proposal.

However, Hampshire County Council does not believe the plans would have any impact on the overall archaeological potential of the land.

In his submission on the planning application, senior archaeologist at the county council, Neil Adam said: “The relatively small scale of this construction access means that it would be unlikely for ground works associated with its construction to expose interpretable archaeological features.”
