A DISPLAY on the last year of the First World War is being showcased in Andover Library this month.

How the town was affected by the conflict in 1918, including the last casualties from Andover, was put together by town mayor Councillor Barbara Long.

The exhibit will be in the library until the end of September, and can be found in the reference section.

Cllr Long said: “It is such an important year this year, marking the end of the centenary.

“It’s important people know the social history, to show people how it impacted on the town.

“Our lives changed because of the First World War.”

The Andover town mayor has marked each year of the war so far with a display in the library window for one week.

Among the discoveries on show this year is an advert in December asking for all bayonets to be returned, as well as an aeroplane day fundraiser in High Street.

Cllr Long noted one unusual find from 1918 was the very few photographs there were of casualties compared to previous years.
