A CHARITY golf day has raised more than £38,000 for a good cause in Tadley.

The annual Loddon Valley Lions Club charity golf day took place on September 3, hosted at the Bishopswood Golf Course, in Bishopswood Lane.

Despite the recent lack of rain, organisers said the course was in excellent condition, but the Lions introduced a couple of ‘sin bins’ to make it a little more challenging.

For example on the fifth and 14th hole, par three challenges, those golfers whose tee shot did not end up on the green were expected to put a fine into the bucket which went to the final total raised.

All the money raised from the event is to be used by the Tadley Community First Responders.

The group was set up in 2002 to respond to 999 calls in Tadley and provide basic life support care prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

Since then the responders have been first at the scene of around 6,800 calls and have usually managed to arrive on scene within five minutes of having been dispatched.

A spokesperson from the Tadley Community First Responders: “The donation will allow us to obtain a new state of the art defibrillator which had many advantages over their existing equipment, not least, the ability to flick a switch allowing the defibrillator to be used on a child, rather than having to waste valuable time in changing the pads on their existing equipment.

“The donation will also allow the purchase of a number of useful accessories to aid our responders.”

This is the second year that the Lions have hosted the charity golf day.

As well as raising money out on the course, funds were supplied by sponsorships and the group also hosted a charity auction which helped to reach the total of £38,000.
