PLANS have been put forward to modernise facilities in Basingstoke’s Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC).

Hampshire Country Council has received plans to build a fit for purpose building at the Wade Road site for staff to use.

If given the go ahead the plan would see the demolition of the existing covered bay.

The site comprises an existing three-sided, covered bay and four open waste bays. The open workshop building is used to temporarily store plasterboard before sorting and onward transfer.

If built the new building will include installed lighting with the use of existing external lighting being fixed to the building, there would therefore be no changes from the existing external established lighting arrangements.

In the planning statement sent to the county council it reads: “The proposed development will involve the demolition of the existing covered bay and the erection of a fit for purpose replacement building, along with the realignment of the four open waste bays.

“The applicant is not proposing any alterations to the existing site access. A vehicle swept path analysis has been submitted alongside the planning application which demonstrates that HCV’s can enter and leave the site safely.”

As previously reported in The Gazette there have been numerous complaints about the running and ease of access to the Wade Road Site.

The County Council hopes that this improvement will be a step towards improving the service for residents.

The planning statement continues: “The proposed workshop building will create a better working environment for those currently employed and in the future."
