THE doors of a depot have been thrown open for one day only.

Sainsbury's Basingstoke depot in Houndmills, opened its doors to employees’ families at an open day on Saturday, 1 September.

Fire engines, police cars, an air ambulance and a marquee full of carnival games were among the attractions at the event.

Employees were able to show their families their workplace on a tour of the depot, including a warehouse vehicle equipment display.

Guests of all ages could take a lorry ride, get their face painted, join in with an inflatable penalty shoot-out and tuck into barbecue food.

Younger visitors meanwhile had the opportunity to try on body armour or be put in handcuffs before being led into a police car for the full criminal experience.

The depot’s charity of the year, The Fire Fighters Charity, benefitted from all donations made on the day and had its own gazebo.

Depot general manager Jim Waller said: “This is a great opportunity for us to open our door for colleagues to show their families where they work and showcase the depot at its best.”
