A NEW campaign has been launched to beat the scammers across the county.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Michael Lane has launched the Scamnesty campaign to urge people to report scams and to advise on how to avoid falling victim to fraud.

Hampshire Constabulary receives more than 700 reports of fraud or attempted fraud each month, with many coming from elderly or vulnerable members of the community.

Mr Lane and his office are offering free Safer Packs to educate people on different types of fraud and how to access help if you or someone you know is a victim.

Mr Lane said: “I am looking forward to raising awareness about the impact, financially and emotionally, that fraud has on residents.”

From September 28, regular Friday Fraud Roadshows will visit locations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to directly engage people in avoiding fraud.

A Scamnesty postbox is also available at both Basingstoke’s and Tadley’s Citizen’s Advice Bureau at which people are encouraged to post suspected scam letters.

These letters will then be analysed to provide better intelligence about the type of scams targeting residents in the area.
