PAMBER Parish Council has placed two memorials around the village to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

One of these, Arthur the War Horse, has been placed outside the Plough Inn, in Slichester Road.

A silhouette cut from 10mm steel plate, it commemorates not only the men and women who lost their lives in the war, but also, the horses, donkeys and mules that perished.

The Little London Brewery supplied a special beer for the day the memorial was unveiled, called War Horse, from which profits, together with a collection, will go to the Purple Poppy Fund.

The memorial was unveiled at the pub by Cliff Butler.
