ARMED police officers swooped at Basingstoke railway station over fears a man was carrying an offensive weapon on a train.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary and British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Basingstoke railway station at 3.25pm on Saturday after receiving reports a man was on a train to Manchester with a weapon.
One platform at the station was closed while the arrest was made.
A 49-year-old man, from Bournemouth, was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and a Class B drug.
A spokesperson from British Transport Police said: βHe has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue in to this incident.β
