CLOTHES upcycling, willow weaving and a chance to try out an electric bike will be among the green-themed activities taking place during Basingstoke Green Week.

The aim of the week is to highlights environmental issues and initiatives in the borough.

This will be the sixth year the annual event has been running in the borough and is held run from Saturday, 22 September to Sunday, 30 September.

Most of the activities are free and there’s something for everyone, including a furniture restoration workshop, a town heritage cycle trail and the opportunity to learn from a National Trust gardener at The Vyne about how to protect the environment.

The week is organised by local volunteers and supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

Cabinet member for regulatory services and the environment at the borough council, Cllr Hayley Eachus said: “It is great to see so many organisations and individuals coming together to promote the importance of being environmentally friendly.

“There’s a really good mix of events this year and I’m proud to be supporting Basingstoke Green Week.”

With dozens of events will be held during the eight day extravaganza, things will kick-off with a green market in Castle Square, The Malls, where local charities and independent businesses will be showcasing all things green in the borough.

Visitors will get the chance to buy local organic vegetables, learn about cycling around the borough and pick up freebies to help reduce food waste. Local charities will also be on hand to talk about their work.
