AUTHENTIC traditional fairground rides set up shop in Basingstoke over the weekend.

For more than 40 years, the Berkshire-based Carters family steam fair has been providing families with a vintage feel to the fun fair.

Featured on the crucially acclaimed film Paddington 2, Carters brought its classic carousel, coconut shy and much more to the War Memorial Park last weekend.

As well as the classic attractions, Carters’ showcased a collection of its restored vehicles include a steam-powered Traction Engine, a rare ‘Showtrac Scammel’, and some Vintage ERF and Atkinsons lorries.

The vintage vehicles were paraded from War Memorial Park and went around the town in the fair’s heritage Road Run event before heading back to the funfair.

The Berkshire-based Carters family has been rescuing heritage fairground vehicles from all over the country and restoring them at their yard, repainting them in a traditional fairground style.

Now run by husband and wife team Joby and Georgina Carter, the pair are passionate about the historical accuracy of their attraction.

Speaking about the Road Run, Georgina said: “Seeing these iconic heritage vehicles go past is great fun for all the family.”
