CIVIC chiefs are set to sign-off on a new task force to modernise Hampshire’s libraries. Tasked with producing a plan to 2025, the group will be looking to find a way of continuing to sustain and improve the county’s service. Named the Culture and Communities Task and Finish Group, its scope will include creating an “efficient and effective library service for the 21st Century”. It comes after Hampshire County Council promised to spend £2 million on its libraries over a four-year period. Totton Library was one of those to receive a substantial makeover, with £362,000-worth of works undertaken as part of a “vibrant new chapter” for the local community. Fleet, and Fareham libraries have also received improvement works, with Andover and Gosport sites to be completed this financial year. Another 14 refurbishment works are planned to take place across the county by March 2019. The decision on the new task force will be made by the Culture and Communities Select Committee in Winchester on September 3.
