A TREE, which is believed to be nearly 80-years-old, has been found poisoned.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is appealing for information after the Sycamore tree, which has stood in the open space by Bessemer Road, in Brighton Hill, for up to 80 years, had holes drilled into it and an unknown noxious substance applied.
Police have been informed and the tree fenced off, while borough council officers monitor the condition of the tree.
Cabinet member for regulatory services and the environment at the borough council, Cllr Hayley Eachus, said: “This action constitutes a criminal offence and I would urge anyone with any information regarding this matter to contact either the police on 101, or our community services team.”
