PROPOSALS have been put forward to change an office space in Basingstoke into new living accommodation.

A planning application has been submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to change the three-story Global House building, in Victoria Street into studio apartments as well as one and two-bedroom flats.

View Property Development LTD aims to transform the building into 20 studio apartments, with the building providing plenty of parking with a basement car park.

If planning permission is granted the building will also have 16 one-bedroom flats and four two-bedroom properties.

In the planning statement it read: “The site is accessed from Victoria Street which runs along the eastern site boundary and was seen to carry a moderate volume of road traffic.

“To the north of the site is an existing commercial building along with a multi-storey hotel which is separated from Global House by an access road which leads to the rear carpark of the Hotel.

“Directly adjacent Global House on Victoria Street is the All Saints Church while immediately south is Basingstoke Spiritual Church with residential housing directly beyond.”

With the proposed site being is close proximity to the town centre, it is believed to be a desirable location to live.

However, a noise assessment was carried out to see how surrounding outside noise could affect living conditions.

In the assessment it read: “A subjective noise assessment on site determined that the predominant noise sources to affect the site is road traffic on Victoria Street along with plant and car park noise associated with the commercial buildings to the north.

“Analysis of results shows that the external noise level did not exceed 79 dB at either of the microphone locations during the night time period therefore no further mitigation is proposed at this stage.”
