MEET Cyclabot – a green machine made entirely of recycled rubbish thanks to creative pupils at a Basingstoke school.

Cyclabot will be one of several recycled robots on display at Festival Place this summer as the centre hosts a series of Trash to Treasure events to encourage visitors to have fun while playing their part in helping the environment.

Dove House School Academy pupils, who said their robot’s job is to “recycle rubbish and make it into art”, were among a number of creative contributors from schools and groups which accepted Festival Place’s challenge to build their own robot sculpture out of cardboard, plastic and other recyclable materials.

The robots will go on display around Festival Place during the school holidays.

Festival Place is still inviting visitors to donate plastic bottles and packaging which will be remodelled by an on-site artist into more weird and wonderful robots during the week of August 13 to 19.

Shoppers will also be able to take part in a game called Uppy Cuppy where they are challenged to hold up as many cups as they can.

Participants will win a reusable cup.

Members of the public will also be able to visit the Carrie O’Bag station to exchange their plastic bags for a brown paper reusable one.

Shoppers will be invited to share all their artwork and photographs on social media using the hashtag #FPRecyclabot.
