FOR the fourth year in a row, Basingstoke Alliance School Centred Teacher Training programme (SCITT) has produced more qualified teachers for the town’s secondary schools.
The scheme, led by Dove House Academy School, has produced 80 trainees over the past four years, 58 of whom have been employed in Basingstoke alone.
On Thursday, July 12 at Bombay Sapphire Distillery, Laverstoke Mill, 23 trainee teachers were awarded qualified teacher status (QTS) enabling them to be employed as secondary schools teachers in art, computer science, English, design and technology, geography, history, modern foreign languages, physical education and science.
The 21 mentors that completed the new BASCITT mentor and coach recognition programme were also recognised.
Programme manager Nicky Hepworth said: “Mentoring is key to a high-quality initial teacher training programme so it is important that we provide our teachers with opportunities to recognise and develop their role.
“The quality of mentoring and coaching is a becoming a real strength of the programme and our new formal recognition process is providing a formal pathway of opportunity for professional development.”
