WHAT do you get when you put a Stormtrooper, a fire engine, a massive cake and around 2,000 people together?

The answer is Hatch Warren Summer Festival which returned on Saturday with a total of 85 activities going on in the playing fields by the community centre in Long Cross Lane.

Attractions for kids ranged from a visit by the police and fire service offering the chance to explore their vehicles to a bungee trampoline.

Elsewhere, charities had stalls to show off their work, retailers sold everything from handbags to cosmetics while the main arena was full of shows to keep guests entertained and a DJ kept the music going throughout the day.

Overall, around 50 volunteers worked from the early hours of Saturday morning to put on the event.

Karen Coomber, the event manager and immediate past chairman of the Hatch Warren and Beggarwood Community Centre management committee, said: “It is all about seeing people smiling and having a lot fun, that is why we organise it.

“It is a pleasure but it is a team effort. I have to thank Clair Britten and Jo Daniels in the office as they provide so much support.”

All surplus money made from the day is used to enhance services at the Hatch Warren and Beggarwood Community Centres.
