BASINGSTOKE’S MP is featuring in a landmark new exhibition about women in Parliament.

Maria Miller MP features in the Voice and Vote: Women’s Place in Parliament exhibition at Westminster Hall which tells the story of women’s fight for equal votes.

In the year that the UK Parliament marks the centenary of a number of women getting the right to vote, this exhibition uses interactive features and historic exhibits to tell the of the campaigning, the protests and the achievements of women.

It is also examining the current situation of female representation in Parliament.

A number of current MPs, including Mrs Miller, have recorded personal and revealing interviews talking about their passion for women’s equality and political interests, which are shown on TV screens as part of the exhibition.

Among the items in this innovative exhibition are re-creations of lost historical spaces of the Palace of Westminster, rare and previously unseen historic objects, pictures and archives from the Parliamentary collections and elsewhere.

Speaking at the exhibition launch, Mrs Miller, chair of the Women and Equalities Committee, said: “This exhibition is not just about equality, and the anniversary of some women gaining the right to vote, it’s about women’s right to stand for election, to sit in the House of Lords, and as hundreds of people visit this exhibition, it will allow each of them to learn more about what it has taken for us to get to where we are now – and what still needs to be done.

“I was the 265th woman to be elected to Parliament. There are currently 210 women MPs and each of us are part of the journey to our democracy fully embracing equality.”

This free exhibition runs until October 6, 2018. Book tickets at parliament.uk/get-involved/vote-100/voice-and-vote.
