College Teacher of the Year, presented by the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane

A COLLEGE leader was praised for her work as head of faculty at Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) as she was honoured as the College Teacher of the Year.

Karon Chewter is the head of faculty for the Access Course at BCoT, which is designed to enable students who do not have the qualifications to get to university to take a one-year intensive course to get introductory knowledge.

The students are then prepared with the academic skills to get to university.

Karon was unavailable on the evening, so BCoT principal Anthony Bravo stepped in to accept the award on her behalf.

Anthony said: “She is really passionate about the course, and has brilliant business acumen.

“Every part of what she does for the college is outstanding, and I’m very proud to work alongside her.

“If all my staff were like her, my job would be very easy!”

Part of Karon’s nomination read: “She has been there to listen to grievances, advise and be a friendly and helpful person.

“Nothing is ever too much and she always helps when she can.

“Karon is valued more than she will know and deserves the recognition for all her hard work.”
