THEATRE students from Basingstoke took to the West End to wow a sold-out audience with an original piece.

Students from the Theatretrain Basingstoke performed at Sadler’s Wells Theatre as part of the show Special Measures.

The story is based around a school getting a new headmaster, Mr Ridgeway, who takes away the arts provision of the school.

All 62 students from the Basingstoke school of dance, song and theatre had their moment on the stage, with three members having the spotlight shone on them with solo performances.

Basingstoke Theatretrain centre director and acting coach Pip Evans said: “The show was fantastic. It was a fabulous day in London. We arrived about 11am where we were able to familiarise ourselves with the stage and backstage and were ushered to our dressing rooms.

“We then had a dress-rehearsal before the performance at 6pm. The theatre was sold out so there was an incredible audience to perform too.”

She added: “The Theatretrain students did so well. The energy, enthusiasm and professionalism was completely on point and helped towards them all giving a truly fantastic performance. I was so proud of them.

“The support we have received from family and friends has been truly wonderful and we’re so very grateful.”

Based at Everest Community Academy, Theatretrain runs on Saturday and Wednesday and is suitable for students aged four to 18-years-old.
