CARE home staff are celebrating getting a clean bill of health from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The healthcare watchdog inspected Ashcombe House in Worting Road on May 22, and the report, that came out on June 18, deemed the home as ‘good’.

The home, run by Barchester Healthcare, was given the ‘good’ rating in each of the five categories that the CQC look for, including the effectiveness of the service, how safe it is and how caring it is.

Part of the report read: “Staff treated people with kindness and respected their privacy and dignity.

“We observed many positive social interactions between people and staff. People told us all of the staff were caring.”

Ashcombe House has improved on its last CQC inspection, that took place in 2016, which rated the service as ‘requires improvement’.

Another part read: “There was a positive culture at the service, people liked living at Ashcombe, staff told us they enjoyed working at the service.

“Quality monitoring was robust and carried out by the service and the provider to improve quality and safety.

“People were supported to maintain relationships that were important to them.

“There were no restrictions on visiting and we observed family and friends visited throughout the day.”

Louise Lambert, general manager at Ashcombe House, said: “We are delighted that Ashcombe was rated ‘good’ in all areas following the CQC’s most recent inspection.

“The team at Ashcombe House are fantastic, they really work from the heart. I am pleased the staff have been recognised, they are in high spirits about their achievement. I couldn’t have asked for a better team.

“Our home is welcoming and homely and most of all we love what we do here.”
