MORE than 15,000 people came out for this year’s Basingstoke Festival of Transport.
Organised by the Thornycroft Society with the help of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Basingstoke Classic Car Club and the Basingstoke Deane Rotary Club, the festival saw War Memorial Park filled with around 800 vehicles of all shapes, sizes and ages on Sunday.
|The older vehicles dated back to 1914, while some of the 1960s vehicles were made at the original Thornycroft site in Basingstoke, which is now Morrison’s.
Garry Bone, member of the Thornycroft Society, said: “Thousands of families and transport enthusiasts enjoyed a free and sunny day out having picnics, meeting friends, browsing the various stalls, viewing and talking to the owners of vintage and classic vehicles on display.
“These included post and pre-war cars, fire engines and emergency vehicles, light and heavy commercial vehicles, buses, tractors, motor cycles, stationary engines and 34 special car clubs.”
Musical entertainment was available throughout the day, courtesy of the Kings Korner Band of Pewsey.
