THE community came out to support runners who lined-up to take part in the annual Silchester fun run.

The race has become a focal point in the village’s calendar with it growing in popularity each year.

There were 164 runners across the different categories taking on the five mile and two-and-a-half-mile race on Saturday, 12 May.

In addition to the races, there was lots of family fun on hand to entertain.

Attractions on the day included: a bouncy castle, a cake stall and stands featuring nutritional advice and running equipment.

The pavilion provided teas and coffees and a bar was set up and run by The Calleva Arms.

The race winners were broken down into eight different categories.

In the men’s race, David Ferguson crossed the line first in a time of 30 minutes 49 seconds, with Rebecca Vincent doing the same for the women in 34 minutes 5 seconds. In the girls under 16 five mile run, Becky Hart finished first with a time of 45 minutes and 30 seconds. Richard Sutton ran 35 minutes 31 seconds in the boys event.

When it came to the veteran, runners Rebecca Smith clocked in a time of 40 minutes 35 seconds and Thomas Steckiw came top in the men’s race in 35 minutes 39 seconds.

For the two-and-a-half-mile run Owen Smith, (16 minutes, 45 seconds) and Isla Bircham (19 minutes 9 seconds) won the boys and girls events respectively.
