THE cream of the musical crop in Basingstoke was ons how at an event at the end of April.

Basingstoke Music and Arts Festival held its Gala Performance and Overall Awards Ceremony at Queen Mary's College on Sunday 29 April, as the finale for this year's event.

An audience included the mayor and mayoress of Basingstoke and Deane, Councillors Paul and Jane Frankum respectively, and several vice-presidents who have been associated with the festival for many years.

Angela Hurley, the festival's president introduced the nine overall award winners representing the many varied sections of the festival, who, having received their trophy and certificate from the mayor, each then gave a short performance.

The ceremony closed with a performances of the theme from Jurassic Park, and When the Saints, given by Test Valley Brass Senior Academy, conducted by Ken West.

The Festival Committee thanked all entrants, volunteers and sponsors who have supported the festival in 2018.
