THE Anvil will soon be awash with youngsters delving into the world of music.

Anvil Arts has teamed up with Hampshire Music Hub to create a day of vibrant world music-making.

As part of World Music Festival Day, on Sunday, 13 May, youngsters are being invited to soak up different musical cultures all under one roof.

Organised by the Hampshire Music Service, the event will be held at the Basingstoke theatre, where children will be able to take part in a range of different workshops to learn more about music and the cultures it comes from.

Tutors will guide those in attendance through a variety of family friendly workshops.

Workshops are for all abilities and include Javanese gamelan, West African drumming, Samba, Udu, Middle Eastern Doumbeks, Indian Dhol and Tabla, Japanese Taiko and steel drums.

Director at Hampshire Music Service Adam Broughton said: “Following the success of last year’s World Music Festival, Hampshire County Council’s Music Service is delighted to be returning to partners The Anvil again in 2018.

“We are again offering favourite workshops from last year, including steel drums and gamelan but are thrilled also to be able to offer new experiences, such as dhol drums, typically used in Bhangra music, and African marimbas.”

The workshops are suitable for anyone over the age of seven and will be broken up into six different sessions.

Day tickets – which are for four workshops - cost £7.50, with tickets for just a morning or afternoon session costing £5 but which also includes access to performances.
