ORGANISATIONS operating in Basingstoke, Hart and Rushmoor are being invited to put themselves forward to receive a small grant as part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight police and crime commissioner’s Safer Together event to be held in Basingstoke later this year.

Schools, community groups and voluntary organisations are all invited to submit a short application by Monday, 30 April to be in with a chance to win the funding.

The applications will then be shortlisted with six being put to the public vote at the Safer Together Event in Festival Place on Tuesday, 19 June. Two of the projects will be awarded £500.

Michael Lane, Hampshire and Isle of Wight police and crime commissioner, said: “Reducing crime and promoting public safety is delivered in partnership. Success creates safer communities and reduces the burden on stretched public services.

There are many great initiatives and events already in operation that help keep us safer, and equally lots of innovative and creative ideas for new projects.

"Sometimes is just takes a small amount of financial support to get something started or help an existing scheme to make a bigger impact."
