AN INDOOR skydiving centre has launched a new Virtual Reality skydive which allows visitors to experience the thrill of skydiving without jumping out of a plane.
The ‘iFLY 360 Virtual Reality’ was launched at iFLY, Basingstoke’s indoor skydiving centre and uses a custom designed virtual reality headset to allow people to experience a real skydive.
The experience involves flying in controlled winds of up to 120mph with specially created 360-degree video footage which gives visitors the most realistic feeling of what it’s like to skydive, whilst remaining safe and secure in the hands of a fully trained iFLY instructor.
The experience consists of two conventional indoor flights, followed by the Virtual Reality flight which combines freefalling from 12,000 feet whilst enjoying spectacular views of cloud ranges and the English countryside.
General Manager, Tracy Goffin said: “The iFLY 360 VR experience takes the thrill of Indoor Skydiving to a whole new level.
“There is none of the fear that many customers would associate with jumping out of a plane, and it’s a much more efficient way of getting the thrill of skydiving, both financially and in terms of time needed. Of course, there’s also no nasty weather to worry about either!”
Plans to develop the product further mean that it won’t be long before customers can choose what they see in freefall, from a selection of exotic skydive destinations around the world.
Prices start from £69.99 and the experience can be booked at iflyworld.co.uk.
iFLY has 50 wind tunnels operating around the world, with the wind tunnel in Basingstoke opening in 2013.
It is available to be enjoyed by people of all ages.
A recent skydiver has said: “The experience was incredible; the instructors were very patient and supportive.
“I took my children along and the instructor allowed them to explore their abilities, but at the same time we knew exactly what we were doing from the time we entered until the time we left.
