HUNDREDS from a Hook community joined an elite group of stars after becoming Guinness World Record-breakers.

A group of 532 current and former pupils, staff and parents from Lord Wandsworth College joined with local villages, members of Alton and Farnham Rugby Clubs and students at Long Sutton Primary School, Danes Hill and St Neot’s prep schools to take part in the world’s largest game of touch rugby.

Held at the Long Sutton college for 24-hours between Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, the players broke the record for the most people taking part in a game of touch rugby.

It beat the current record of 442 - which was set by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

John Brake, the professional England rugby sevens player, came along to take part, with the London Irish Academy on hand to get involved complete with their mascot.

The event raised more than £4,000 for Cancer Research and mental health charity, Mind.

Jonathan Pitt, houseparent at Lord Wandsworth College, said: “I’m so proud of all of those people that helped make this happen - we couldn’t have done it without the whole community getting involved and we’re over the moon to have raised so much money for charity.”
