RAILWAYS users are facing delays because a fault means operators don't know where trains are.
South West Trains announced that the problem is affecting services between Basingstoke and Winchester and is forcing trains to run at a reduced speed.
Trains through the area are facing delays of up to 20 minutes and dispruption is expected until the end of the day.
A South West Trains statement says: "A fault has developed with two signals between Basingstoke and Winchester affecting the system that allows us to know where trains are on the network.
"This means that trains are required to stop and seek verbal permission to continue past two separate signals in the area.
"This is also affecting Cross Country services.
"Engineers are trying to rectify the issue and we will give updates when known.
"We expect there will be delays of up to 30 minutes and services may be altered, cancelled or revised at short notice.
"We expect disruption to last until the end of the day.
The following services will be affected:
16:26 Basingstoke - Portsmouth Harbour wil be cancelled
16:38 Winchester - Totton will be cancelled
17:24 Basingstoke - Southampton Central will be cancelled
17:59 Portsmouth Harbour - London Waterloo will start from Basingstoke
18:17 Southampton Central - Winchester will be cancelled
18:39 London Waterloo - Poole will call aditionally at Micheldever
19:05 Winchester - Southampton Central will be cancelled
19:35 Basingstoke - Fareham will start from Eastleigh
