TRIBUTES have been paid to the “lovely lady” whose body was found on the streets of Basingstoke last week.

North East Hampshire Coroners confirmed to The Gazette that the body was of Emma Chadwick, pictured.

Last week, The Gazette told how a homeless man’s efforts to try and save the 31-year-old were in vain after he found Ms Chadwick outside in Winchester Street.

Friends of Ms Chadwick said “she was always smiling”.

Gemma Furness wrote: “I hope you have some peace now and I will miss our chats.”

She added: “My heart goes out to all your friends and family.”

Laura Collins added: “Emma was always smiling and chatty plus such a lovely lady to have known. You’re at peace.”

“RIP Emma Chadwick. So shocked and sad to hear such terrible news,” Adam Kilford said.

Hayley Bird said she “couldn’t believe it.”

She added: “Emma was such a lovely person, well done to the man for trying. She’s at rest now.”

On Wednesday, May 10, police found Ms Chadwick’s body early in the morning, with police cordoning off the street until mid-afternoon.

She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

One man, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Gazette Ms Chadwick's boyfriend attempted CPR on her before ambulances arrived.

He added: “It was sad. The police took our statements and then I was just left on my own again on the street.”

Readers were quick to thank the man involved, with many calling his actions “heroic”.

The coroners confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances of her death has been launched and an inquest will take place.
