POLICE are warning residents to be more vigilant after a spate of scam telephone calls.
On each occasion the victim received a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC Revenue and Customs.
They were told that they would be arrested if they did not settle an unpaid tax bill. Fortunately the victims knew this was a scam and refused to hand over any money.
Officers are urging to report any suspicious calls to Action Fraud immediately and not to handover any money or bank details over the phone.
Hampshire Constabulary advises residents who believe someone is calling from a bogus company to hang up and all the company they are claiming to be from using a different phone or wait five minutes before calling.
Also If someone comes to your door claiming to be from a company or organisation, always ask for identification and make a note of their identification number.
Anyone who is concerned about similar incidents should contact police by calling 101.
