TWO cars crashed on the Black Dam Roundabout this morning, resulting in delays to rush hour traffic.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the incident at 7.23am after a Hyundai and Volkswagen were involved in an accident on the roundabout.

No one was trapped, but a woman was assisted from a vehicle by paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service.

The roundabout, which underwent an £11million transformation to change the layout, was in the spotlight when a former parliamentary candidate branded it a "race track" after he was injured in a crash there.

Robert Blay, UKIP's candidate in the last general election for North East Hampshire, called for the roundabout to be put back to the way it was after a driver skipped the red lights and ploughed into his car.

A spokesman for Highways England said since the transformation there has been "no indication of any increase in road traffic collision numbers".
