A CHILD has been airlifted to hospital after being knocked down by a car near a Basingstoke school.
Police closed off Sherborne Road, in Oakridge, to traffic and pedestrians whilst paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service treated the 10-year-old boy at the scene for a serious head injury, before he was taken to Southampton General Hospital by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
The air ambulance landed in playing fields next to Oakridge Junior School.
Hampshire Constabulary and South Central Ambulance Service were called to the incident at 3.30pm this afternoon.
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that no one else was injured in the collision and said enquiries were ongoing to establish what happened.
