THERE are nearly 600 businesses serving food in the borough, and the Food Standards Agency's Food Hygiene Rating Scheme shows customers which ones are maintaining top standards when it comes to preparing food.
Fortunately, more than 500 of the businesses in the borough have been rated as four or five out of five, which is good or very good.
But that leaves 72 which scored between nought and three.
So if you are thinking of going out for a meal this weekend, you might want to check our list below first.
Those rated as nought means urgent improvements are necessary, one means major improvements are necessary, two means improvements are necessary while three is generally satisfactory.
None of the businesses in Basingstoke and Deane scored nought, eight scored one, five scored two and 59 scored three.
The local authority, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, carries out the inspection and the score reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of the inspection - it is not a guide to the quality of the food.
It applies to all businesses serving food, including restaurants, pubs, cafes, takeaways, hotels, supermarkets and other food shops.
Inspectors look at how hygienically the food is handled, including how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored; the conditions of the structure of the building including cleanliness, layout, lighting and ventilation; and how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.
Some businesses which present a low risk to people's health - for example pubs that sell only drinks and crisps but not cooked meals - may have been inspected some time ago.
Whereas those that present the greatest risk to people's health will be inspected more frequently, for example a takeaway preparing dishes using raw and cooked ingredients.
The Gazette has attempted to contact all the businesses which are rated as one, to offer them the opportunity to comment.
Any comments provided have been added below.
Have a look at our list below to see if your favourite restaurant is on it.
Any business which scored four or five has not been included on the list.
The information is correct as of February 15, 2016.
