PEOPLE across Basingstoke are being warned about a scam event due to take place this evening.

Basingstoke Rugby Club has been made aware of a ticketed foam party which is being advertised as taking place at the club in Pack Lane, Kempshott, from 7pm tonight.

However, the club has warned people that the event has not been organised by them and will not take place.

In a post on its Facebook page, the club said: “We have been made aware that tickets have been sold for an U17s event here this evening.

“This is a SCAM and there is no event here. It is nothing to do with the Rugby Club.

“It has been reported to the police and National Fraud Office”.

We can confirm that we have been in contact with Basingstoke Rugby Club and are currently assisting them in getting the message out to people who may have brought tickets that the event is a scam.

A police spokesman said: "We are about to issue a message via our Facebook and Twitter channels and are trying to avoid people turning up at the venue tonight.

"We would advise all to be aware that this is a scam - and ask anyone affected who may have brought a ticket to report this through Action Fraud, which specialises in investigating this type of offence."
