SOUTH West Trains has issued an apology after a fault with the customer information system caused chaos for passengers at Basingstoke train station yesterday morning.

Customer information boards around the station and on the platforms were unavailable yesterday morning, with one passenger telling The Gazette that staff were “less than usually visible” to offer information when trains were redirected to alternative platforms”.

But the train company has issued an apology to customers.

In a statement, a spokesman for South West Trains said: “We can confirm that on Thursday morning we experienced a temporary fault with our customer information system.

“Whilst our third party supplier worked to resolve the issue, we made audio announcements where possible and staff assisted passengers at our stations.

“The system is now working as normal. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused to customers."
